I love the guys on 5 Live Sports Extra. They're currently pissing themselves because one of them (Chris Bailey?) said he thinks Elena Dementieva will win the Australian Open this year. Cue lots of laughter and remarks such as 'What were you drinking this morning?' and 'possibly the worst call in tennis history since last week when you said Murray would win 10 grand slams...that was just from Mars'.

Brightens my sleep-deprived morning to hear people being sarcastic about elite sportspeople.

My phone has decided not to tell me when I have voicemail messages. I just rang it up because my mum mentioned P had left me a message and I had 3 messages I knew nothing about! Fortunately none of them were important.

So:

1. Does anyone know why this would happen? I'm on Orange.

2. Please don't leave me voicemail mesages. (Not that people often ring me anyway!)

Received this message today from someone I rarely see:

"When you're working on something, and need to plunder a picture from flickr, only to find someone you know on the first page of returns.

Especially when the project you are working on is not called "Igg"."

As it transpires, the search was this. Thanks Isabelle!

If I can be really tragic for a minute- so 2 or 3 posts back I mentioned my guinea pig being a bit poorly and having an eye problem. We've been giving him antibiotic eye drops & had to take him back to the vet for  follow up today.

Anyway, upshot is that we're taking him in tomorrow for an operation on his eye- the likelihood being that they'll remove it. It's not a particularly risky op in itself; but guinea pigs are not great at coming round from anaesthesia, and although (apart from the eye) he's really healthy, he is an old man guinea pig at 6 and a half years old.

So, you know, worry.

And because I am tragic, here is a photo:

It's the twentieth anniversary of the first Simpsons episode today. Who is your favorite Simpsons character—Ralph? Sideshow Bob? Ned Flanders? An actual Simpson?

Cennino Cennini's "Il Libro dell'Arte' reads, on the subject of the proper proportions for figure drawing:

"...I will give you the exact proportions of a man. Those of a woman I will disregard, for she does not have any set proportion....

I will not tell you about the irrational animals because you will never discover any system of proportion in them."

That's 15th-Century Florence for you.

Matos kicked Swedish judge Chakir Chelbat in the head as coaches from both teams ran on to the mat to dispute the result. The Cuban was leading 3-2 in the second period of the contest when Matos stopped to receive treatment for a foot injury. Competitors are allowed a one minute period to treat injuries, and when this time elapsed the referee awarded the contest to Chilmanov.

After a heated exchange on the mat, Matos pushed the match referee and then caught the Swedish judge in the head with a high kick. Matos then spat on the floor was promptly dragged from the scene by his back-room staff.
